        Champ Lyons, III was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on October 11, 1971. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee in 1994. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1997.

        After law school, Champ served as law clerk to Chief Justice Perry O. Hooper of the Supreme Court of Alabama. In 1998, Champ moved to Birmingham, where he began practice with an insurance defense law firm. Champ practiced as a defense lawyer for approximately five years. In 2003, he decided to leave his partnership with the defense firm and start his own law practice as a trial lawyer representing individuals who were victims of accidents or corporate wrongdoing.

        Champ is licensed to practice in all state and federal trial courts in Alabama as well as the United States Court of Appeals for Eleventh Circuit. His primary areas of practice include personal injury, wrongful death, nursing home malpractice, products liability, automobile accidents, truck accidents, fraud, insurance bad faith, and homebuilder negligence.

        Champ was elected to the 2006 class of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Alabama Association for Justice. He is a past president of the Emerging Leaders Section of the Alabama Association for Justice. He served as an officer for two years on the Young Lawyer's Section of the Birmingham Bar Association. In 2003, he was appointed by Governor Bob Riley to serve as an Administrative Law Judge for the State Health Planning and Development Agency. Champ is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham and the Birmingham Monday Morning Quarterback Club (a group that raises money every year for the Crippled Children's Foundation). Champ is also active with the Birmingham Athletic Partnership.

        Champ lives in Birmingham with his wife, Elizabeth, his sons, Champ IV and Lawson, and his daughter, Kerry.
